The Sea Zoo and Bongoland – hear the real, in-depth story of these two Volusia County early tourist attractions!
Dr. Perry A. Sperber, MD moved his wife, daughter and son from Providence, RI to Daytona Beach to find a warmer climate. Once here, he set up his Dermatology medical practice and he partnered in a tourist attraction in South Daytona called the Sea Zoo, where guided tours led visitors through a presentation of marine and animal exhibits. Subsequently, due to his childhood love of dinosaurs, he formed Bongoland, now known as Sugar Mill Gardens, where his dinosaurs still stand in his memory.
They were Volusia County’s first tourist attractions – the Sea Zoo and Bongoland. Let’s take a look at these wonderful early tourist attractions from the perspective of the son of the owner. Learn the back story and details of these attractions. Where were they? When did they exist? What were they? How did they happen? What happened to them? You will learn all about these attractions and will leave the presentation as an expert on the Sea Zoo and Bongoland!
