About The Exhibit

Visitors will encounter the story of the Burgoyne Casino fire and the early beachfront blazes that transformed the city’s wooden architecture, as well as the devastating turpentine factory explosion that shocked a growing town. The exhibit traces the impact of powerful hurricanes, past and present, alongside the ongoing challenge of coastal erosion that continues to redefine the shoreline.

The narrative also revisits the tragic Daytona plane crash of the 1940s, placing the event in its broader historical context and honoring those affected. Throughout the exhibit, a central theme emerges: community response. From emergency efforts to long-term rebuilding, Disasters of Daytona Beach highlights how residents, leaders, and first responders have faced disaster with determination, adaptation, and resolve.
