An Afternoon with Mark Lane
Mark Lane has spent decades turning Florida’s quirks, charms, and head-scratching moments into sharp, funny, and deeply thoughtful writing. A longtime columnist and features writer for the Daytona Beach News-Journal, Lane has earned multiple awards for his ability to make readers laugh, think, and occasionally wonder, “Only in Florida, right?”
His 2019 book — a clever, well-researched dive into Florida’s state symbols and the surprising stories behind them — earned praise for its tongue-in-cheek humor and unmistakable love for the Sunshine State. A Seabreeze High grad with a master’s from Boston University, Lane brings a hometown perspective shaped right here in Daytona and Ormond Beach.
Join us as Mark shares stories from the newsroom, insights from his books, and the wonderfully oddball Florida moments that have fueled his career.
