'Star Maker ~ The Story of the
Daytona 500' is the theme of the current
changing exhibit at the Halifax Historical Museum in Daytona
Beach.Marvette Panch Bagwellhas loaned a portion of her
father's immense racing collection to the exhibit.
Museum Director Suzanne Heddy said 'Because this is such an
important and timely exhibit, we decided to extend it until July
5th.'The Daytona 500, set for February 17, is the
50th running of the 'Great American
Race.'
The exhibit outlines the evolution
of the race beginning with the beach/road course and the
construction of Daytona International Speedway.
The
Museum's permanent exhibitions include our early inhabitants,
the Timucuans, the Spanish and British colonial periods, the
founding of Daytona Beach, vintage cameras and postcards,
nineteenth century clothing, the Racing Zone, War Room and
Grandma's Attic featuring vintage toys and infant
clothing.
The Halifax Historical Museum is
located at 252 South Beach Street, Daytona Beach.Hours of operation
are Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am - 4:00 pm.Admission is
$4.00 for adults, children under 12 years $1.00, admission by
donation on Thursday.Children are admitted free on
Saturday.
On Saturday, February 9, Glenn
McGlonewill host a discussion entitled 'The New Track' at
the Halifax Historical Museum.This program will feature race
drivers who made the transition from the existing short tracks to
the new super Daytona International Speedway.The program begins at
11:00 AM with refreshments at 10:30. Admission is $5.00 for Museum
members and $7.00 for non-members.Call the Museum for more
